I already enjoyed band, but watching this made me want to stay in band as long as I can.— Sixth Grade Student

This is Step And Close

An inside look at what it really takes to be part of the band and what it’s really like to be part of the group that works harder and laughs more than you’d ever dream possible. It’s about the students, the music, the experience, and how you can keep it alive by participating in and supporting the music education program in your school.

A recruiting tool for band diretors and educators.

Step & Close is so much more than just a movie, especially for educators. It is an instrument (pun intended) meant to be put to use for the schools of this nation to protect the arts and recruit the best and brightest talent imaginable.

Step & Close offers a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most feared periods of a band member’s career: Band Camp. Through the eyes and words of the students who have survived this intimidating week and a half of transformation comes a tale of unbreakable bonds and unmatched fun.

Band is an adventure. It will shape a student’s life and influence the success of their future selves. Step & Close will undoubtedly become an indispensable tool in your recruitment and retainment process. Download our PDF file and get some pointers on how other educators have used Step & Close in their schools and classrooms.

The Director of Bands at Traverse City West Middle School has a no frills method of spreading the good word about band and its influence on the lives of youth. Flournoy Humphreys has fashioned herself a cart, one that she will move from classroom to classroom.

This cart, as you can see, is festooned with the official Step & Close movie poster (the very same one hung within the glass display of the home of Michael Moore’s Traverse City Film Festival, the State Theater, where it premiered). With this cart, she commandeers the class and demonstrates the wonders of band.

This recruitment technique has vastly improved her ability to gain new talent, retain that talent and spread the message of the need for arts within our schools.

Flournoy is doing it. You could be too! Download the PDF, buy the DVD, support the arts. Let Step & Close work for you!
